“16 Billions” is a beautifully presented Fate/Zero fan book by a group of Chinese artists who go by “Happy Xpec Friends” or “HXF” for short.
16billions is printed in a B5-sized horizontal format and consists of 44 full color pages.
Most interestingly, the booklet has a sewn binding rather than a stapled one. +10 for presentation! While I didn’t photograph it, the cover of the book also has flaps with shiny red metallic embossing. It’s kind of like an imitation dust jacket. The paper that the whole book is printed on is also quite thick!
The first piece of artwork in the book is the same art used on the cover itself. It spans two pages and shows all of the main characters. I think I prefer it with the red sky, don’t you?
Even though it is specifically listed as a Fate/Zero fanbook, there’s some cameos by the popular video game versions of Saber in it as well. Here’s a pretty sweet Red/Nero Saber from the PSP game Fate/Extra. I love the chibi Caster on the right!
There’s quite a lot of chibi artwork in this book. This one is done by STARshadowmagician (Or “STAR” for short.)
Another game Saber makes an appearance! Here is the extremely popular Saber Lily interpreted by STAR, who also did the cover art and quite a few other lovely pieces.
This next illustration is by Sherry, and presents us with a sort of Yin Yang of Saber and Saber Alter. Sadly, Sherry’s website link does not work for me, so I don’t have any further information about the artist to provide.
Rin + Young Rin is another lovely piece of work by Sherry.
The next few pages are 2 page spreads of chibi characters by Catfish, whose work really gets around. You might recognize this style because Catfish is the artist of the extremely adorable Lamp Miku, which is actually being turned into a PVC figure later this year!
There’s a whole slew of adorable chibi artwork by Catfish. I felt it’d be redundant to attempt to describe them all, so I’ll let the pictures do the talking. I wish I knew some Chinese, so that I could read the comics. Somehow, I get the feeling her favorite characters are Waver and Rider… :P
The next two illustrations of Irisviel and Saber are meant to go together as a two page spread. For your viewing pleasure, I’ve included the digital version of the full illustration from rem’s pixiv.
This gorgeous gothic Irisviel is also by rem. The digital version is also on pixiv.
The last part of the book is reserved for illustrations by guest artists.
While I certainly did take a lot of photos of this doujinshi, I did not photograph the whole thing, and there’s quite a few more wonderful illustrations to be seen on the inside. I completely neglected to take pictures of any of AYAKI‘s work, which was completely by accident.
Personally, I haven’t finished watching Fate/Zero. I really enjoyed Fate/StayNight, however, and I’m sure I’ll finish Zero eventually, too. I bought this doujinshi from someone on LiveJournal in the midst of the F/Z craze after seeing how lovely it is. It’s truly one of the more impressively printed fan works that I own.
